We promised to keep you up to date with developments regarding the planning application to landfill the Parbold Hill site. So here’s the latest:
There are a number of criteria the applicant has to meet in order to gain permission – mainly approval by Lancashire County Council (LCC) planning and a permit from the Environment Agency (EA).
So far OBJECTIONS have been made to LCC, since this is a County Council matter, from West Lancs Borough Council, the EA, Highways England, various Parish Councils (inc. Parbold, Newburgh, Dalton & Lathom South), the Campaign to Protect Rural England, and over 1,000 members of the public.

The traffic situation will only get worse once lorries start delivering waste and in the last few days, there have been two major accidents on the hill requiring closures and heavy police presence.
The EA have stated in a recent letter that: “We are aware that there is a strong feeling within the community about this issue. We will likely treat any application to vary the environmental permit as a Site of High Public Interest.”
This is great news and would mean public consultation via meetings and public drop-in sessions.
ECOLOGY REPORT COMMISSIONEDWe have also commissioned our own ecology report with help from the CPRE which identified 140 different plants at the site, including 3 plant species of national & local conservation importance, the Knotted Pearlwort (pictured), Brown Sedge and Corn Mint. The EA will take all this into account when considering the case.
THE WAITING GAME
This new development will take some time so we are currently in a holding position waiting for the applicant to complete discussions with the EA and come forward with an amended proposal. Meanwhile, we will keep applying pressure on all parties considering the application.
Donations have helped fund leaflets, posters, banners, hydrological and geological research and reports to raise strategic questions of the EA but we still need further funds. A big thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
If you would like to donate then please see our website for more information.
You can also help by supporting the Parbold Flea Market on Sunday, October 27th at the village hall as we have been invited to run the kitchen and a tombola stall in an effort to raise funds. We need volunteers to help us on the day or if you can’t help please come along and buy tea, coffee or breakfast. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
